Building Mathematical Connections & Relationships that Promote School Readiness

Mathematizing – The Art of Teaching Math to Young Children

In this three-part community of practice series, you will learn the art of teaching math to young children through play-based experiences. Mathematizing teachers create micro-math cultures in the classroom by integrating a math lens within children’s everyday experiences. These learning sessions will support your understanding and development of: exploration, investigation & play; math grammar; and mathematical-inquiry practices. You will have the chance to use new tools and practices within collaborative inquiry groups that will support your meaning making process. In addition, there will be reflective videos for the group to see great practices occurring in preschool classrooms. Join us for this great event with your peers in the field.

This is webinar 2 of 3.

Young children transitioning to Kindergarten will have to understand the relationships between multiple mathematical concepts in order to solve operations, fractions, equations, and other problems. This means that preschool children have to be provided with learning experiences that go beyond math activities in isolation. They need to experience play, project and problem-based learning experiences that provide the platforms children need to engage with multiple math concepts. This webinar will present some strategies to support teachers as they plan for incorporating powerful math experiences that help build children's mathematical connections and relationships within the classroom.
