Overview of the Reading, Writing, and Oral Communication Knowledge and Performance Indicators
Designing course projects integrating a variety of instructional approaches, literacy components, and materials
Assist pre-service and in-service teachers in effective collection and analysis of assessment data to differentiate early childhood instruction
Design effective practica experiences to best demonstrate candidates’ knowledge of assessment, literacy components, and instructional practice in authentic situations
Become familiar with resources available to support higher education faculty in presenting material to pre-service and in-service teachers

Dr. Susan Massey is an assistant professor of reading at Western Illinois University – Quad Cities where she teaches undergraduate and graduate literacy courses.  With degrees from the University of Illinois, Millersville University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Virginia, she has taught primary and intermediate grades, has served as a reading specialist, and has taught at the community college and university levels.  Her professional journal publications focus on a variety of early childhood literacy topics as well as literacy coaching.  She currently serves as an associate editor of the Illinois Reading Council Journal and is a regular presenter at state and national conferences.
