Supporting Our Youngest Learners Experiencing Homelessness

This presentation will provide an overview of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Act. As of October 1, 2016, the McKinney-Vento amendment enacted through ESSA: Every Student Succeeds Act is now in effect. Main themes to be discussed will be: Identification, School Stability, School Enrollment, Support for academic success, and Child-centered, best interest decision making. Beginning the educational journey in the early years and "pushing up" through high school can provide structure and help build resilience in a homeless child's future.
