Steps to take
Children should only spend 10-20 minutes at a time on the computer. If you do not have access to a computer, go to the local library or check with your school.
At Home
If you have more time
- When you are sitting at the computer, ask your child to join you. Ask how do you think the computer works?
- Play the Alphabet Game-ask him/her to write the alphabet by finding and pressing the letters on the keyboard. Show them the function of different keys. Show your child how to make upper and lower case letters. Have your child type their name. Show them the different types of print (fonts) by changing their name to different styles of print.

MORE FOR AT HOME OR AT THE LIBRARY
- Write a story about a place you went? Have the child tell you the story as you type it on the keyboard. Add pictures to the story if you can.
- Create an email message together, have your child press the enter button to send and explain how the person will see the message on their computer. When you get a reply, show your child and read it together.
