Steps to take
Use your finger or your child's pointer finger to touch each object and count aloud. If your child does not get it right, simply demonstrate and go on.
At Home
If you have 3 minutes
- Simply count items with your child. Count shoes, silverware, buttons, steps, doors, windows.
- Children can set the table: 4 people for dinner, 4 forks, 4 knives, 4 spoons, 4 napkins. Matching the chair to the place setting is one to one correspondence.
On the Go
If you have 3 minutes
- Count trees on a walk, swings at the park, numbers of butterflies or birds, people on bikes, clouds, groceries, "Can you put 2 apples in the cart?"
- Count the number of foot steps to the library door or sounds that you hear (car horns, elevator dings, dogs barking).
